On the day I waved goodbye
You said you'd be alright
So did I
On the day I left you there
you began to grow your hair
So did I
I carry guilt upon my back
My heart it beats thumbtacks
But not as much as yours
Hope is losing weight
I was told to never hate
But I hate this
I try to drink it away, try to drink it away, try to drink it away
But it is here to stay
The government drags you down
and paints you a permanent frown.
This is nothing new
I've heard a few sick jokes
but being punished for arriving by a fucking boat -
come off it!
I try to drink it away, try to drink it away, try to drink it away
But it is here to stay

Where all things grow
04:45
|
|||
Your touch was dry as dynamite
Tender as a tiger's bite
You took me in
I remember Bluebeard's wife,
Who broke her promise and lost her life
She couldn't win
The roots disturb a burial ground
And all things grow where all things go to die
So don't you think it's time we said goodbye?
Yeah don't you think it's time?
The fairytale memory,
The ashes and the cage
It's never a happy ending
Years ago i learned to read,
Gathered words like they were weeds
And made a garden
The roots disturb a burial ground
And all things grow where all things go to die
So don't you think it's time we said goodbye?
Well don't you think it's time?
The patience of the underground
Where time is measured by the sound
Of everything breaking
This is the patience of a heart
No longer fearful of the dark,
No longer fearful of the dark
The roots disturb a burial ground
And all things grow where all things go to die
So don't you think it's time we said goodbye? Don't you think it's time?

Salty sea
03:15
|
|||
The farmer ploughs the land as the sun comes up
In the distance he can see his little buttercup
Her smile is growing everyday
He has a lot of cattle that he calls his kids
His family laughs, he says"It's just the way it is.
You've got to look after your own"
On the other side of town in the Catholic Church
The priest cries "Lord, my stomach hurts.
My faith has let me down again.
I led my wife and children to the promised land
Then let them all go when I opened my hand
I needed a life change at the time.
But I can't dwell on the painful past
And I can't make the slow go fast
Even if I swim in the salty sea
Or wherever I need to be"
The truck driver speeds through the centre of town
The old folks murmur, "I wish he would slow down"
But he's got to keep up with the times
His eyes are bloodshot from staring at the road
He thinks about his future and not being alone
But for now he is happy where he is at
And says: "I will go where the road will take me
Even if it's into the salty sea
The sun still shines on the lonesome road
Or wherever I need to go
Or wherever I need to go
To wherever I need to go

Handwritten note
02:23
|
|||
Your habits are roads to where you never meant to go
Your fingerprints are grooves deep as craters on the moon
You're blurring all the lines that are growing round your eyes
Your fingernails are filthy as you point up to the sky
The garden gate is closed you left a handwritten note that says
I'm going home please come back tomorrow
Your parents put a notice in the local lost and found
Your angry baby sister burned the hen house to the ground
Your children went to live with someone elses family when they knew you weren't coming back, you could at least have told them that
You wonder if they will forgive you guess you'll have to wait and see,
When days are cold and lonely you can sit and read your diary
The pages lined with words you wrote so many times it hurts, i know i must be true to me, i must be true to me
